Yousuf Huda 1302 – 005 Spring 2008 Kamalika Mitra SR 7 March 29, 2008 In chapter seven of Nancy Wood’s Perspective on Argument , Wood discusses the types of proofs needed to make an argument valid. The three kinds of proofs discussed are logos, which is logical proof, pathos, which is emotional proof, and ethos, which is proof that builds up credibility through authority. Each section of this chapter contains more detailed approaches of logos, pathos, and ethos. For example, there are different types of logos proofs. There are arguments from statistics, definition, analogy, cause, deduction, etc. My experience with these three proofs was first introduced to me in my Managerial Communication class. From what I believe of these elements, they are very important to use in business. I am majoring in Finance and since business is mostly communication, I believe that I will be using them a lot. Proofs are also used everyday by literally everyone who actually talks. People in our society need to be able to be convincing or persuading. I believe that this chapter should be taught to the point that everyone knows about it because it is part of the foundation of socialization and without socialization, our country would not be as successful as it is today....
