Yousuf Huda 1302 – 005 Spring 2008 Kamalika Mitra SR 6 March 12, 2008 In chapter six of Nancy Wood’s Perspective on Argument , Wood discusses claims and the five different parts of claims which are claims by fact, claims by definition, claims by cause, claims by value, and claims by policy. Wood also gives many examples of each along with a sample essay. The chapter also gives in depth details on what type of claim should be used for every situation. I found this chapter to be very helpful because I read it before I did my Toulmin analysis on the California Work commercial on Youtube. It was helpful because I wasn’t too sure what kind of claim the commercial was stating at first but after reading this chapter, it all became clear. I have had some other situations such as in my English 1301

We were supposed to pick them out of the article and state them. That was the assignment. This information could have been very helpful at that time if I had access to it. Also this information will be very useful to me in the future because I am a finance major and from what I have heard, you have to deal with clients and from their experience, you have to find the purpose or claim and use it to help them. I believe that this chapter will be a helpful tool for me in the future and it will help me on my way to achieving my goals....
