Social Policy Project: Vancouver Aboriginal Child and Family Services Society What:   non-profit society that provides service to urban Aboriginal children and families living in the Greater Vancouver area. -Service has been a child and family service since 1992. -Try to culturally and spiritually strengthen aboriginal families through holistic service delivery. -Services include: Foster care, Guardianship, Family preservation and reunification, Residential resources, and Child protection. History of VACFSS:  began in June 1988 as the Mamele Benevolent Society with a mandate to develop Aboriginal Child Welfare and in-home support programs for urban Aboriginal families. Four years later, 1992, it was reincorporated and called the Vancouver Aboriginal child and Family Services Society. - the core of VACFSS from 1992-1999 was family support services. -it offered support to families involved with the ministry and to whom there was a risk of becoming involved in the child protection services and VACFSS also provided cultural support to children-in- care and cultural awareness to caregivers through cultural program. -In 1999, VACFSS started guardian pilot project while starting negotiations with the Ministry to
