Ch. 14 Vocab 19:07 Aborigine – Indigenous inhabitant of Australia  Aotearoa – Maori name for New Zealand, meaning “Land of the Long White  Cloud” Archipelagos – Island groups often oriented in an elongated pattern Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation – an international group of Asia and Pasific  Basin nations that fosters coordinated economic development within the region Atoll – Low sandy island made from coral often oriented around a central lagoon Closer Economic Relationship – An agreement signed in 1982 between Australia  and New Zealand designed to eliminate all economic and trade barriers between  the two countries  Haoles – Light skinned Europeans or U.S. citizens in the Hawaiian Islands High Islands – larger more elevated islands often focused around recent volcanic  activity  Hot spots – a supply of magma that produces a chain of mid ocean volcanoes
