Exam # 2 will include the following chapters from
Health the Basics
: 4, 5,
6, 14, and 15. Test items on contraception will be taken from the presentation
done by Sharon Rachel, MPH. Test questions from the lectures given by Dr.
Adame on STIs, and “Love, Sex and Relationships” may also appear on the test.
Chapter 4: Violence and Abuse: Creating Healthy Environments
Know the definition of violence given in your textbook, pp. 82.
Let’s begin the review with the discussion on “Violence in the United
States,” pp. 83-84. Review “Societal Causes of Violence,” pp. 83-84: Know the
commonly listed factors on page 83-84. Also know the discussions on “anger,”
and “primary aggression” and “reactive aggression,” pp. 84-85.
Under “Bias and Hate Crimes,” p. 86-88, learn the dimensions and
additional characteristics of hate crimes.
In our age of terrorism, the discussion on “Terrorism: Increased Risks from
Multiple Sources,” is apt and succinct, p. 89. Learn the definition given by
Donatelle, and review the” things you can do to help reduce anxiety about and
actual harm related to terrorist attacks” (p. 89).
In “Domestic Violence,” pp. 90-92, pay special attention to “Women as
Victims,” and learn the “Cycle of Violence” theory developed by Psychologist
Lenore Walker (pp. 92-92). Review “Causes of Domestic Violence” and “Child
Abuse,” pp. 93-94.
“Sexual Victimization,” follows on pages 94-95. Here know the differences
in the meaning of the following terminology used in the discussion: sexual
assault, rape, aggravated rape, simple rape and “Acquaintance or Date rape.”
