When we think of white collar crime, we think about guys in suits not people wearing masks andtoting gins. It is this perception of the white collar criminal that makes it more difficult to identifyand furthermore fear this type of crime. White collar crime may appear to be non-violent and victimless, blaming the victim instead of the criminal. Because of this, the offenses may be treated lightly in the eyes of the criminal justice system. In comparison to murders and rapists that are commonly seen on the news, white collar criminals do not intimidate the public as such.The economic factors related to the white collar crime and the loss it relates to can amount to billions of dollars in comparison to a corner store robbery. Police are not as prepared to investigate the crimes of fraud as they are to investigate the crimes that are more public, and due to this fact the criminal justice system views the white collar crime as something smaller
