Philosophy My job is to find ways to help you learn about astronomy and understand the main ideas, and your job is to actively do the learning! Based on post-secondary education guidelines, you are required to spend roughly three hours per week outside of class for each unit of credit attempted (full term). “It is not what the teacher does that matters; rather it is what the students do.”

The fatal pedagogical error is to give answers to students who do not yet have questions. Reading Questions: • you will be assigned reading questions weekly. • 1 or 2 Chapters from the book. • You need to take them before coming to the class on the Blackboard ! In one sitting ! • RQs will count toward 10% of your grade. • There will be a set of RQs due before next class. I’ll send an email.

What you need: What you need: Textbook: Discovering the Universe, 9th edition by Comins, Kaufmann. Recommended for completing reading questions and getting ready for the class! 8th edition should be good enough. Blackboard access: you are required to log into the blackboard regularly and check for the announcements.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
