MATH 138Calculus IIFall 2015Course objectives. The goal of this course is to further expand your knowledge of calculus and itsapplications for one-variable functions. The course can broadly be split into four parts.First, we willcontinue where Calculus I (MATH137) left owith more techniques of integration as well as applicationsincluding finding areas between two curves, volumes of solids of revolution and the average value of a function.Secondly, we will examine dierential equations: we will study how to solve separable dierential equationsand linear dierential equations. Thirdly, we examine sequences and series. Various tests of convergence willbe introduced. Then, we focus on power series and look at their possible applications. Lastly, the course willconclude with the study of parametric curves and, time permitting, polar coordinates and conic sections.Tentative Course ScheduleWeekDatesText SectionsTopicsEvents1Sep 14–185.3, 5.5, 7.1, 7.2Review of Integration, Integration by Partsno TUT2Sep 21–257.3, 7.4, 7.5Trigonometric Substitution, Partial FractionsA1 due3Sep 28–Oct 2*6.1, 6.2, 6.3, 6.5Areas, Volumes, Average Value of a FunctionA2 due4Oct 5–97.8, 9.1, 9.2Improper Integrals, Intro. to DEsA3 due5Oct 12–169.3, 9.4Separable DEs, Population ModelsA4 due6Oct 19–239.5, 11.1Linear DEs, SequencesA5 due7Oct 26••–3011.2, 11.3Series, Integral Testmidterm••8Nov 2–611.4, 11.5Comparison Test, Alternating Series TestA6 due9Nov 9–1311.6, 11.7Abs.
