1. Explain the rise of Rome Roman State was established in 753 BC in central Italy. For nearly four centuries till 338 BC, it remained a city state only, with control over some nearby city states. The expansion of the Roman Empire started from 338 BC and by 290 BC, the empire extended to the entire peninsula of Italy. The Romans later conquered several empires around the Mediterranean Sea like Carthage, Syria, Greeks, Persia and Egypt. They also expanded in to Celt territories in the North and the West and established control over the entire Mediterranean region. 2. How was Rome able to conquer the Italian peninsula and eventually control the entire Mediterranean? The Roman Empire initially built a powerful military with which it brought the entire Italian peninsula under its control. Later with the help of powerful navy, it conquered the Mediterranean empires like Carthage, Greeks, Syria, Persia and Egypt and expanded the Roman Empire throughout the Mediterranean region.
