In the Australian Journal of International Affairs , Bisley’s article, ‘An ally for all the years to come’: why Australia is not a conflicted US ally argues how the alliance between Australia and the United States of America are strong in the areas of military and strategic interest, and discusses how these interest benefit Australia and at what cost do they come in. Through the agreements held in their alliance, the “States provide one another with security guarantees to the extent that they perceive the benefits they receive from cooperation to be worth the costs and risks that these arrangements entail” (Bisley, 2013, p. 405). To achieve the goals that Australia were seeking, the US had provided four key benefits in their treaty to help with Australian security and uphold their part in the alliance. The first benefit “that the US had given was that the USA would come to Australia’s aid in the event that it was attacked” (Bisley, 2013, p. 405). This benefit was fairly limited in that it only acknowledged an attack that would be dangerous and disrupt the safety and peace to any party in the Pacific area. Bisley adds that Australia wanted to tighten this benefit and style this part of the treaty as one found in the North Atlantic Treaty. Although they were unsuccessful in
