Bio 101 Exam 1 Study Guide The following is a list of concepts you need to know for the exam. It is suggested that you use this list to build a study outline. If you would like me to look at your outline, you may bring it to my office hours. Do NOT email your outline to me. Chapter 1: Scientific Method Know the steps to the scientific method Understand how to write an experimental procedure, including identifying the variable and control Chapter 4: Cells Difference between a prokaryote and eukaryote Know the pros/cons of different types of microscopes Parts of the cell and their functions (nucleus, nucleolus, nuclear membrane, plasma membrane, mitochondria, ribosome*, rough ER, smooth ER, vesicles*, golgi bodies, lysosomes*, chloroplast, cell wall, central vacuole, cytoskeleton*) Know how the plasma membrane is contructed, and how the cell controls what comes in and out (proteins!) Be able to label a diagram of the cell (all of the above EXCEPT the starred ones)
