The Causes and Effects the American Revolutionary War1The Causes and Effects of the American Revolutionary warThe American Revolutionary War (1775-1783) was a struggle between the Kingdom of Great Britain and the thirteen colonies on the North America continent. There were numerous causes that led to this war. The primary cause was the increasing demand of freedom among the Americans. They did not want Great Britain from an ocean away to govern their lives. In the early18th century, differences in life, thought, and interests had developed between the Great Britain and the growing colonies. Local political institutions and practice diverged significantly from English ways while social customs, religious beliefs, and economic interests added to the potential sources of conflict. The British government created the navigation acts in order to regulate commerce in British interest. These acts were loosely enforced, and the colonies were able to develop freelywith little interference from the British. (American Revolution, 2013) When Great Britain took control of new colonial policy it intended to tighten politicalcontrol over the colonies, and make them pay for their defiance and return revenue to the mother country. The tax levied on molasses and sugar known as the Sugar Act in 1764 caused some dismay among the New England merchants. The tax itself was smaller than the one already on the books, but the promise of stringent enforcement was novel and ominous.
