World Geography Final Exam Review The test is Friday, August 4. It will be fifty multiple-choice questions. Any of the main topics discussed in class as well as things covered by the reading assignments are fair game. Reading assignments are posted on blackboard. Some topics covered: North Africa and the Middle East: why are these two places put together? what is the Sahara desert, the Atlas Mountains, the Maghreb? historic development: the Fertile Crescent, Islam, the Ottoman Empire, European colonization what about the population distribution in North Africa really stands out? what are some of the major tenets of Islam? environmental issues: salinization, desertification, and water scarcity other topics: Western Sahara, Sudan, Israel, the Kurds, wars in Iraq Sub-Saharan Africa: what is the Sahel, the Great Rift Valley, the Horn of Africa? what are some of the factors affecting population diseases in Africa (HIV/AIDS in particular, but be aware of the others) historic development: slavery, European colonization
