REQUIREMENTSData Modeling RequirementsMajor design issues that need to be addressed before proceeding with the data design.Databases, such as operational databases, are used to sore transactional data while the data warehouse is usually designed for historical data for different analytical purposes. This, in itself, can propose a challenge. As the data warehouse pulls data from future and existing operational systems, the warehouse models become dependent on future or existing generated data. Where does the challenge begin? The challenge begins when the definition ofa business object, or dimensional attributes, doesn’t directly match with the nature of the available data. For instance, “a ‘customer’ is one who pays, a ‘client’ is who has paid for the last 2 years and a ‘contact is who is a potential target for the business (McKnight, 2012).”Different approaches to dimensional modeling.According to Laura Revees – A Manager’s Guide to Data Warehousing, there are
