Mrs. Owens Com 110 Synthesis Paper “According to most studies, people's number one fear is public speaking. Number two is death. Death is number two. Does that sound right? This means to the average person, if you go to a funeral, you're better off in the casket than doing the eulogy.” Jerry Seinfeld Fortunately I believe that taking this communication class has helped relieve myself of my public speaking apprehension. My topic selection skills have also improved using very different methods to obtain and research my topic. My outlining skills have also tremendously improved through practice and more careful planning. During the beginning of the year in my Communication Improvement Profile I wanted to improve my topic selection skills, organizing skills, my ability to prepare for class and speeches. I have improved my ability to improve my topic selection skill throughout this course and also partially my organizing skills. I was not able to improve my preparation skills and abilities. I am more organized currently with the ability to write a clear outline which helps my ability to clearly state my ideas and thoughts about a certain topic. I was able to improve my outlining skills tremendously since the beginning of the year. Prior to this course I did not use an outline to map out where my ideas would fit into my work.
