Tanta university Faculty of engineering Computer and automatic control department Image processing course Fourth year students Sheet 9, Date : 14/12/2011 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Instructor: Dr. Hamed Hemeda Sheet 9 1. The three images shown below were blurred using square averaging masks of sizes n = 23, 25, and 45, respectively. The vertical bars on the left lower part of (a) and (c) are blurred, but a clear separation exists between them. However, the bars have merged in image (b), in spite of the fact that the mask that produced this image is significantly smaller than the mask that produced image (c). If you know that the vertical bars are 5 pixels wide, 100 pixels high, and their separation is 20 pixels. Explain bar merging in image b. 2. Explain one way for digital image smoothing. 3. The two 256 gray levels images shown in the figure below have the same size and border. Although they are quite different inside they have the same histogram. Suppose that each image is blurred with a 3x3 averaging mask(Problem 3.14 Gonzalez 3ED).

### What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

• I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

Dana University of Pennsylvania ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
