The stupid gift that I chose for this assignment is a Yodeling Pickle. It is made mainly of plastic but also has metal parts within that form the sound device. Life cycle analyses of plastic products begin with mining. The major raw materials extracted to manufacture plastic are oil and natural gas. These materials are most likely received from a country other than the United States. Removing these resources requires the use of machines. These machines have their own life cycles and emit green house gases that add to global warming. During extraction, oil sometimes spills polluting the ground or water supply. Not only does mining oil require an enormous amount of land, it also ruins ecosystem diversity and affects water runoff. After the oil and natural gases are extracted they are transported to a factory where components within in the oil are chemically bonded to form plastic. The trucks or ships that transport the oil release carbon emissions. Once at the factory it is necessary to realize the plant runs of natural gases and fossil fuels and the machines used emit green house gases. There is also a great amount of waste that
