2 Mode of Transportation There is several different type of transportation that can be used in a supply chain and normally more than one is used. The mode of transportation used by an organization depends upon how important the shipment is to the customer. For example, if you are shipping a large amount of raw material and there are no time constraints, rail transportation could be an option. It is cost effective and is capable of moving tons of material. Whereas, a delivery that is going directly to the consumer could be sent air via commercial delivery company is an optimal choice. In addition, shipment from a distribution center to a retailer can be done by over the road trucking.
