Psychological Disorders 08/04/2008 18:03:00 PTSD Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder – chronic anxiety and intrusive memories  which occur at least one month after a traumatic event OCD Obsessive Compulsive Disorder – intrusive, distressful thoughts and  repetitive behaviors intended to suppress them Obsessions – persistent, bothersome thoughts  o For Example: Contamination Superstition or unluckiness Harming Someone Running out of Something Doubting that one has done something Compulsions – thoughts or behaviors which function to alleviate obsessions o For Example: Tapping or Rubbing Objects Counting Cleaning Checking Hoarding Thinking “good” thoughts  To be diagnosed with OCD, one’s obsessions and compulsions must lead to  significant distress and they must take up at least one hour of the person’s  day In addition, the person must not enjoy performing the compulsions
