POLS 441 FOREIGN POLICY Fall 2014 Umut Uzer, Ph.D. Associate Professor Department of Humanities and Social Sciences Istanbul Technical University e-mail: [email protected] Office Hours: By appointment Course Description The objective of this course is to study foreign policy analysis. After a general overview of the scholarship in this area, the course examines various theoretical approaches at different levels of analysis in the light of selected case studies. Interaction between domestic and international factors in foreign policy outcomes are analyzed and the effects of domestic institutions, public opinion, and interest groups on foreign policy are studied. Course Requirements Required Readings: Selected articles and book chapters Grading: Midterm Examination 30 % Final Examination 50 % To be eligible to take the final examination, students must have taken the midterm examination. Attendance and participation 20 % Academic Honesty The Department of Political Science and International Relations has the following rules and regulations regarding academic honesty. 1. Copying work from others or giving and receiving answers/information during exams either in written or oral form constitutes cheating. 2.
