1/16/2008   1 Women’s Rape Crisis Center A. General Info - 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men will be a victim of sexual assault or attempted assault. - VT statistics: 1 in 7 women will experience a sexual assault in her life-time. - The Center serves 400-600 individuals a year, with numbers rising each year. - The center provides a variety of services to diverse populations, including men and teens. - Services are not limited to crisis intervention. The center works w/individuals that had experienced any form of sexual trauma in the past or present, as well as family members of survivors. B. Services Provided - 24 hours, 365 days a year hotline that is primarily staffed by UVM students – facilitates peer to peer relationships. - Medical Advocacy – provide emotional support to rape victims in the ER and beyond (trained nurses perform the rape kit as well as securing any evidence, but counselors are available to support the rape survivor through the process). - Legal Advocacy – provide info about available legal options, the process of filing a complaint, etc. -
