Egypt Summary According to the assigned reading for this week, The great pyramids and sphinx of Egypt represent monuments that were built by a people who dominated Mid Eastern life for thousands of years. I learned that there were 3 major periods of Egyptian History; Old Kingdom 2670-2150 BC, Middle Kingdom 2150-1800 BC and New Kingdom 1550- 1070 BC; this includes the Amarna period-1370-1350 BC of Egyptian history during the later half of the Eighteenth Dynasty when the royal residence of the pharaoh and his queen was shifted to Akhenaton before the emergence of the Old Kingdom, there existed a Predynastic period in Egypt. The Predynastic period lasted from 4350-3150 BC. This period was a time of social and political transition. In 3150 when this period ended under the leadership of Menes, Upper and Lower Egypt were united as one kingdom. It was during the Old Kingdom, that the traditions and standards of Egyptian art were established. Rules of construction and composition were established between
