Khilola KhusanovaLit 327Professor, Daniel PerroneAs a(?) young kids, we used to play different games. Out of all (___) games, our favoritewas called strings, played as a group. To play this game, we used to make long strings by cuttingoff clothes. Once we have a long string, two-person_(?) would hold it from two ends, and oneperson jumps around it. It was our favorite game; however, we could never afford to buy the readystring from the store. One day I clearly remember that my mom found out that we had beencutting her favorite fabric to make string and satisfy our needs. Of course, she wasn't happyabout it and decided to punish us by restricting us from playing this game ever again and throwaway the(?) everything that we have to play that game. The significance of the story is that theword punishment is not something that we get exposed to as an adult (WHY NOT?). Punishment,it's a very familiar phrase to both children and adults. When we are young, we interpretpunishment as shouting of our parents or constraint from certain things that we enjoy, for ourunfavorable behavior. As we get older and aware of reality or distinguish good from bad, ourunderstanding of punishment changes (WHY?) and we formulate different views of it.Nevertheless, it's worth saying that there is no ultimate definition of punishment that's equallyacceptable for everyone. There are a lot of factors that play a role when we define the word, suchas our background, age, education level, culture, religion, our career, and so on. A lawyer maydefine the punishment as a pay-off for a crime that's committed, while priests may say it's God'swill for doing something wrong. Or someone might say it's just "karma.”. So, it’s not an easy task,to define such as broad term. However, it’s appropriate to state (___) definition that’s agreedupon by many. Punishment is the imposition of something undesirable or unpleasant on someone
or the removal of something desirable or pleasurable in reaction to misbehavior. The punishmentcan be administered formally under a legal system or informally in various types of social settings, such as inside a family. The severity of punishments is always controversial, depending on thedegree of the crime. There are many forms of punishment, that takes in many different settingsand in many different forms. However, one way or another, there is always (_) price to pay forcrime, no matter (___) severity of the crime, and it’s called punishment. Difference perspectiveof the punishment is not only observed in real life, but also in a many works of literature. Allauthors have their own understanding of the(?) punishment and tries to express their opinion oftopic in their work. In the work of literature, authors do not often directly state the main idea orthe message behind the story (WHY NOT?), instead they make reader think and figure out forthemselves using the clues. In doing so, they utilize some forms of literary device to deliver themessage of the story. For instance,Things Fall Apartby Chinua Achebe’s is one of the
