Marching to The Beat of The Same Drum
There is so much time and effort that goes into creating a marching show that by
the time the first competition comes around everyone is more like a family that a random
group of people.
In all reality many times you spend more time with the people that you
are in marching band with than
you do with your actual
It is more than a class,
more than a hobby, it is a way of life because in order to have a good band everyone must
eat, sleep, breath band for four months.
It takes a great deal of dedication and drive to
make a great band.
There are many different aspects of marching band which include:
instruments, terminology, leaders, different members
One of the main aspects of marching band is the instruments.
There are many
different instruments that are used. There are your low brass instruments that consist of
the baritone and the tuba or sousaphone.
Next in the brass family are the middle brass
which are the mellow and trombone.
The final group in the brass family is the high
brass, the trumpets.
Then we have the reed section; these are the alto, tenor, and baritone
saxophone, the clarinet, the flute, and the piccolo.
Another group of instruments in a
marching band is the battery, also known as the drumline, which consists of snares, quads
or quints, and bass drums.
The finally, lets not forget the pit. The pit is made up of
mallets; such as the xylophone, marimba, and the vibraphone, and toys; such as shakers,
gongs, tambourines, ect.
Another part of marching band is the auxiliary also known as the guard.
auxiliary consist of flags, sabers, and rifles.
Members of the auxiliary use these items to
portray the mood and story that the band is describing with the music.
