Begin by explaining how each department uses information technology, what hardware it uses, and what functions currently are automated. Also assess which department is most in need of a network.Answers: NDAS was founded in 1985 and headquartered in Tampa, Florida. The current state of NDAS’s office automation, system integration, and networking varies among different divisions. The Marketing and Sales Division provides a PC for each account representatives; all ofthe computers are connected to a small LAN that serves only for this division. The Accounts Receivable Division recently changed the old minicomputer to a powerful minicomputer server which provides databases for both customer billing and bad debts since the division is responsible for all billing and collection activities. The Accounts Payable Division maintains its own vendor databases which were stored on an older minicomputer server. Also, the division recently downsized the minicomputer to a powerful desktop computer since the division is responsible for the payroll. The Fleet Maintenance Division does not have computer capacity, and the employees process all the information manually. Therefore, this area is being considered for automation. Dispatch Department also processes the work manually. Human operation participates from the point when the bundles arrive at their
respective delivery points to the time when the packages are delivered. The various remote offices currently communicate with the corporate headquarter and with other offices by voice mail, telephone, fax, mail, or interoffice mail, sent on company aircraft along with the daily batched transactions.
