Kimberly Fletcher Literacy 1 Reflection of practicum A learning Experience For the past few months, I have had the privilege of working with a child named Sam. Sam is unlike many children his age. He is a slow learner. This was a very hard thing to take in at first. I thought going into this practicum that my student would be what society deems normal. I thought that I could go into this school, teach my lessons, and get a grade. Well boy was I wrong. My whole style of teaching had to change. I had to think outside of the box and work very hard to reach this little boy. My first day was very scary. He was so far behind, and I have had no experience with slow learners. I can honestly say that I learned so much from this child. I went into this practicum thinking this would be an easy grade. I was wrong, but I’m glad that I was wrong. This experience helped me realize that every child has different needs. I am never going to have a class full of perfect kids. I honestly would not want it that way. I learned that by challenging myself to find a way to
