Which Antimicrobial Agent Is Most Effective Against Bacteria? Dec.13.2020Chemicals that kill bacteria or inhibit bacterial growth are called antimicrobial agents. There arethree basic types, antiseptics, disinfectants, and antibiotics. In this lab we were assigned todetermine which antimicrobial agent is most effective at killing/inhibiting growth of bacteria. MyHypothesis was that if bleach is the best antimicrobial agent, then the zone of inhibition (thezone where bacteria are unable to be present) should be the largest. The procedure given was to obtain a sterile nutrient agar petri dish, mark and label the bottom, use a sterile inoculation loop to add bacterial from a culture onto the surface of the agar, thenadd each antimicrobial disk and the control onto the marked and labeled sections, and lastlyclose and seal the dish with tape and let it incubate for at least a day in a incubator. Me and mypartner changed nothing from the procedure. We did have a choice to choose between penicillinand another antibiotic, but we chose penicillin.
