Extra Credit Assignment for Intelligence 1. Savants are people who have minimal intellectual capacities in most domains, but at a very early age each savant shows an exceptional ability in some “intelligent” process. Leslie Lemke is a savant because he struggled to chew food on his own for a year after birth. At birth, he was diagnosed with glaucoma, cerebral palsy, and brain damage. Doctors had to remove his eyes. During the first seven years of his life, he made no sounds or movements or showed no emotions. He finally learned to stand at the age of twelve and he learned to walk at the age of fifteen. At the age of 16, his adoptive mother found him playing Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto no. 1. He learned how to play it just by hearing it on the television (“Leslie Lemke”). 2.
