IRANIAN REVOLUTION 2 The cause and result of 1979 Iranian Revolution The 1979 Iranian revolution was caused by several reasons which included modernization, economic concern, social and cultural concern as well as political concerns (Imām, 2005) . When the prices of oil increased, the Shah attempted to bring about modernization regime which pushed aside the merchant class thus forcing the poor peasants to become the migrant workers in the towns. This brought about inflation which lowered people’s standards of living. In result, people protested against Shah thus resulting to revolution. Political leadership of Shah also contributed to revolution. The single party government with introduction of SAVAK which was the intelligence organization was ruthless and imposed harsh punishments. SAVAK executed thousands of political activists. Middle class citizens were as well not allowed to participate in government activities. In addition to this, all the members of
