Drama Worksheet Title: Oedipus the King Author: Sophocles (Translated by Dudley Fitts and Robert Fitzgerald) List as many conflicts as you can: When Tiresias tells Oedipus that he is responsible for the plague and he doesn’t believe him. Oedipus against his own fate is a conflict; he doesn’t believe that he is responsible for the plague. Then, choose what you think is the main conflict and explain the reason for your choice: I think the main conflict is Oedipus against his fate. He was destined to be in the scenario that he ends up being in towards the end of the play. How is the main conflict resolved, if it is? The main conflict is resolved when Oedipus finds that he is actually the cause of the plague and that he killed his father and slept with his mother and he lets the Gods do whatever they see fit to him. At what point is the climax? When Oedipus finds that Tiresias was actually right and that he was the cause of the plague and that he killed his father and slept with and married his mother.
