Unformatted text preview: Anatomy & Physiology II Notes 1/30/07 Endocrine System Affects almost everything in the body Secretes hormones into the blood stream that affect the physiology of the things in the body that they act on Consists of many glands and structures that each produce hormones o Pineal gland o Hypothalamus dual role as both a neural and an endocrine structure, understanding of it provides us with an understanding of the body-mind communicates w/all parts of the nervous system (feelings/emotions bodily effects) Relationship w/ pituitary: hypothalamus has regions called nuclei that are made up of cell bodies axons end in the neurohypophysis of the pituitary, antidiuretic hormone (ADH) and oxytocin are produced in the cell bodies and upon stimulation at the cell bodies, the hormone is secreted by the neurohypophysis structures work together to produce/secrete hormones, hypothalamus produces ADH and oxytocin and the neurohypophysis releases them into the bloodstream, release and inhibitory hormones travel through the stock and are released into the...
