They are not always portrayed accurately and often act out known stereotypes. Christina B. Chin and some of her colleagues conducted a study on Asian American representation in television and even though what they claim was seven years ago, they are still relevant and prevalent in today’s television. The amount of Asian American or Pacific Islanders as leading roles or regular characters on television is still minute. There are only about a handful of them, one being Harry Shum Jr.’s character as Michael Tang on Glee. The show Gleeis centered on a glee group started in McKinley High School that throughout the season unites people of various cliques into a close knit of friends. Each season spanned a year of high school for the cast and in Season 3 it is New Directions’, the name of the glee group, third attempt at a Nationals title. Harry Shum Jr.’s character was only a recurring character for the previous seasons, but for this season he became a regular and is known as the best male dancer.
