Gregory Stoker Luda Bard / Sue Bard T TH 2:00-3:30 November 9, 2006 ARE POLAR BEARS ON THE VERGE OF EXTINCTION? QUESTION Are polar bears on the verge of extinction? When I was a child, my parents would take me to the National Zoo where my favorite animals, the polar bears, would always be playing in their arctic habitat. Recent studies have suggested that polar bear populations are decreasing due to climactic warming, pollution, and over-hunting. I do not want my favorite childhood animal to pass into extinction. For this reason I decided to learn about these threats to polar bears and what we are doing and can do to help them. SOURCES Sterling, Ian. "Possible effects of climate warming on selected populations of polar bears (Ursus maritimus) in the Canadian Arctic."
