History 305 October 3, 2007 Hitting Rock Bottom Small crops that didn’t cost much People lost their farms because of cheap crops Banks closed a lot of farms Pretty Boy Floyd Hero o Helped the poor o Outlaw o Robin Hood o Stool a lot of money and used it to help people o A lot of stealing was overlooked because cops knew they were trying to eat Whole families had to work to survive very few people could buy crops A lot of farmers had expanded during the boom caused by the war which put them into debt Overproduction Returns were very small Drought 1930 o Everything dried up o Left families with no money or food for the winter o Hoover turned to the Red Cross Washington worked through the Red Cross o Gave garden seeds to people so they could grow food o Even these gardens died o Late November food distribution began o Worked like plantation system o Land owners determined who got food on their land o Aide began to run out Little awareness in Washington about what was going on in the country
