Chapter 2 Plate Tectonics 2.1 from continental drift to place tectonics -earth’s continents gradually migrate across the globe -tectonic processes deform Earth’s crust and create major structural features like continents -continental drift hypothesis was initially rejected by scientists 2.2 continental drift: an idea before its time -Alfred Wegener wrote The Origin of Continents and Oceans, which outlined the hypothesis of continental drif -Wegener said supercontinent existed (all earth’s landmasses) called Pangea which drifed apart -Jigsaw puzzle = “best fit” model, the continentals all seemed to connect to each other -Fossil evidence = identical fossils were found in both South America/Africa, further proving that landmasses were together EX: Mesosaurus, Glossopteris -Mountain evidence = if continents were together, they should have similar rocks, evidence was found that similar rocks were in different continents -Climate evidence = evidence for glacial period was discovered in different continents, such as ice sheets 2.3 The great Debate

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
