Defoe's first and most famous novel,The Life and Strange Surprising Adventures of Robinson Crusoe, of York, Mariner,appeared in 1719, when he was almost 60 years old. The book is commonly known asRobinson Crusoe.A fictional tale of a shipwrecked sailor, which was based on the adventures of a seaman, Alexander Selkirk, who had been stucked on one of the Juan Fernández Islands off the coast of Chile. The novel has full of detail about Crusoe's hard attempts to overcome the hardships of the island, has become one of world most famous literature. Although Defoe is writing fiction, he creates the impression that his tale is a true story by using of dates and real places in Crusoe's account of his early life, and the inclusion of specific details and accurate descriptions. Defoe frequently uses images from everyday life and from nature, images that underscore Robinson Crusoe's middle class origins and tastes. I really enjoyed the story and the process of time for my research paper and I hope you will enjoy just like I do. Now I will explain the story though the outline, briefly in detail. English novelist Daniel Defoe publishes his first novel,Robinson Crusoe, in 1719 when he was 60 years old. Another of his best works, Moll Flanders, is about a London prostitute. Daniel Defoe was a novelist and journalist, whose work reflects his experiences in many countries and in many walks of life. Besides being a brilliant journalist, novelist, and social thinker, Defoe was a prolific author; he produced more than 500 works.Defoe was born in London about 1660, the son of a candle merchant named Foe. Daniel added “De” to his name about 1700. He was educated for the Presbyterian ministry but decided in 1685 he decided to go into business. ( Maximilian Novak, Defoe p.16) He became a merchant, and his business gave him frequent opportunities to travel throughout Western Europe. After the, Queen Anne succeeded in English throne, Defoe was revealed as the author of The Shortest Way with the Dissenters (1702).A pamphlet which satirically advocated extermination of religious nonconformists.
