2. Proposition
The consideration of ‘gender discrimination’ as the most serious problem is more
likely to increase the importance of ‘girls’ education.’
3. Importance of Research for business
In India, the issue of gender discrimination and discriminatory attitude towards
women in almost all spheres has always been a debating point but continues to remain
difficult for people to realise its gravity. Although the Indian Constitution grants equal
rights to both the genders, gender differences remain. Since birth, the girl child faces
various forms of discrimination based on gender ranging from subtle to severe. It
sometimes leads to their deprivation of good and higher education, and ultimately to
lesser job opportunities. This research holds importance as it intends to know the
beliefs, behaviour and attitude that reinforce gender equality and informs about other
situations that need to be controlled in order to create a better and more equal
environment for either genders. Through this, we can tackle problems like workplace
discrimination, unequal pay and unconscious discrimination in general.

5. Hypothesis
People who consider discrimination against girls and women as the most serious
problem are more likely to disagree that a university education is more important for a
boy than a girl.

It is only likely for people who do not believe that a university education is more
important for a boy than a girl to disagree that men should have more right to a job
than women when jobs are scarce. Disbelief in both the statements shows that the
person is not in favour of providing undue advantage to men on the basis of gender in
terms of either education or work opportunities. Both go hand in hand and thus a
positive correlation between the two is expected.
