Born in Porbandar India in 1869, he went to law school in England in1888 and started practicing law in South Africa for nearly 22 years. Since 1857,India has been trying to gain its independence from theBritish empire. Britain hadbeen controlling every part of India from politics to economics and trade. The firstIndian political party to arise was the INC (Indian National Congress) in 1885 andwas the first party to have governed India after independence. Mahatma Gandhistarted the peaceful protesting in South Africa for India until he decided to moveback to India and start the fight there alongside the INC and othermajorindependencefigures. Gandhi had an Ideology that included, everyone is equal andshould be treated fairly disregarding their wealth, religion, etc.Mahatma Gandhi started his movement in India when he came off the SSArabia in 1915, he had thousands of people cheering his arrival in Mumbai orBombay the Anglo-Indian name. During thattimeeveryone expected him to arrivein “English” clothing but came in traditional clothing setting a statement that Indiais its own, the people are its own and not the British Raj.
