Mike Stengel Post-Kyoto (1) Summary opinion—The United States must recognize that they are the #1 emitter of  greenhouse gases and take responsibility for its inability to address the issue head-on.  However, an international platform is not the proper place for such a response.  Rather, more aggressive measures must be taken domestically to mitigate past  ignorances.   (2) Rationale—why should U.S. policy follow the course you outline?  (+/- 1-2 short  paragraph(s)/bullet points) Rationale 1:  The current Kyoto Protocol has multiple flaws; so why is there  any reason that it will get better? Many of the goals and nuances of the protocol  do not serve the interest of the American people.  It is expected that some  nations will not participate, which is crucial downfall to any international effort.  For it to truly be international, it must be a world-wide campaign, no  exceptions! Rationale 2:  This issue can be resolved on the domestic front, without  outside influence.  Progress can only be made through technological innovation  (supported and funded by the government, an extension of the citizens) and  legislation.  The US has the power and the aptitude to make such a change  possible.
