STUDY GUIDE FOR THE SECOND EXAMINATION Sociology of Murder Dr. Elizabeth Mustaine The following is a study guide for the text for the second exam. It is only a guide and should only be used as such. It is not a contract. Learning as much of the material as you can will only help your performance on the test. When using this guide, it is best to focus on learning how to utilize the concept/theory, relationships between the concepts or the significance of concepts/theories, and examples of these concepts/theories as opposed to simply learning definitions. Good Luck! Chapter 4: Intimate and Family Murder How frequent is spousal homicide in society? What are some of the statistical patterns regarding when intimates kill each other? What are some of the most common motives for intimate family murder? How is “battered woman’s syndrome” used on court? How is it different from a defense of self-defense? What are some of the reasons that intimate partner homicide has declined in recent years? What else can be done to continue this decline?
