Gilbert 1InThe Practical Skeptic: Readings in Sociology, Article 3, Lisa McIntyrediscusses the murder case of Hernando Washington. McIntyre states at the beginningof the article, that the crime Hernando had committed had left a big impression on her, because it had seemed so bizarre to her(McIntyre 2014, p. 9). After reading this article, one would have to use their sociological imagination to help understand why Hernandodid what he did, and why he was so confused about why people thought it was sowrong.McIntyre states that, “It was not that, in his mind, Hernando did not understandthat robbery, kidnapping, rape, and murder are against the law. The fact that he at firstdenied doing them helped prove that” (McIntyre 2014, p. 24). So, McIntyre knew thatHernando knew that these things were against the law, but he could not understand whyeveryone was making such a big deal about what he had done (McIntyre 2014, p. 24).
