Communication publishes research and scholarship in rhetoric and composition studies that assists
college teachers in reflecting on and improving their practices in teaching writing, as well as
scholarship and theory that reflects the most current scholarship and theory in the field. Research and
theories from a wide range of humanistic disciplines—including English studies, rhetoric, cultural
studies, LGBT studies, gender studies, critical theory, education, technology studies, race studies,
communication, philosophy of language, anthropology, and sociology—as well as from within
composition and rhetoric studies, where a number of subfields have developed, including technical
communication, computers, and compositor studies—have been incorporated into the field of
