Pan-ku was a god, when he died his body became the thunder, sky, soil, trees, water, etc The parasites on his body became human beings. This creation myth is recent (3 rd c. BCE). Pattern: texts which claim to describe more and more ancient things are more and more recent compositions. Reason: the history gets filled in. (?). Thousands of years ago, there werent ma ny texts to describe myths, events. Why didnt the Chinese have a myth of origin? The Chinese arent interested in the factual origins of their civilization, theyre interested in their m oral origins. There are a lot of Westerners who want to start studying Chinese religions with a creation story, but thats just because Christianity starts with an origin story. Beginning of yin-yang thought.
