My experience with transitioning from high school to college was a terrifying experience.
I was not guided by my school counselor one bit. In fact, my school counselor was great when it
came to dealing with social emotional issue but lacked knowledge in college and career
readiness. I had originally planned to attend a four-year college as that is what my school
counselor urged me to do, as she stated careers do not take individuals seriously, unless they
graduate from a four-year. I later spoke with my aunt who is a doctor in medicine, and she stated
that couldn’t be further from the truth. Especially, for me because at the time I was still
undecided and wanted to get my general education requirements out of the way. A community
college was a great fit for me financially and academically. Gladly, I ended up attending a two-
year college, later to transfer to a four-year.
