(2007). Strategic Management: Concepts and Cases 11 th Ed. Prentice Hall Additional Readings: Additional short readings will be either posted on the Course Blackboard or handed out in class. Course Description: The objective of this course is to help students understand the concepts of strategic management and the application of the concepts to real life strategic issues which center on attaining organizational goals. The understanding and application of the strategy concepts require the knowledge of various business functions such as accounting, finance, marketing, production operations management, organizational behavior, etc. Students are expected to have some knowledge in those functional areas. Organizational performance, which is one of the most important organizational goals, is affected by various factors including external environment and internal resources. Managers need to understand these external and internal factors and their relationships, and have skills to make right decisions and implement strategies. This course is designed to provide students with these understandings and skills. Students will learn concepts, analyze cases and examples, and apply what they learned to solving real-life strategic problems. During this course we will examine the three steps of strategic management: strategy formulation, strategy implementation, and strategy evaluation. We will discuss how these steps relate to the different levels of an organization: corporate, business, and functional levels.
