It either produces a product, provides a service or a product-service bundle. The “something” must be delivered by a process; a process that transforms inputs into outputs. The operations function within an organization is responsible for these processes. Operations managers are responsible for the design, the daily operation and the improvement of these processes. This course provides an introduction to the field of operations management to understand the ways in which the decisions made by operations managers directly impact an organization’s competitiveness. Topics include operations strategy, process management, capacity planning, demand management, production planning, material requirement planning, shop-floor control, inventory control, just-in-time systems, and project management. Course Materials Textbook : Operations Management for Competitive Advantage by Chase, Jacobs and Aquilano, McGraw-Hill, Eleventh Edition 2006. ISBN: 0-07-298390-6. Course website: http://fordham.blackboard.com Course website has all the readings, lecture notes, excel worksheets, extra exercises (with answers), game instructions, and practice exams (with answers). NO handouts will be distributed in class. Course Grading Exams: There will be two midterm exams and one final exam. Each of the two midterms is worth 20% of your grade, and the final exam accounts for 40% of your grade. The midterms are not cumulative while the final exam is. You will be tested on all materials covered from the lectures and textbook. All exams will be closed book and closed notes. No formula sheet will be provided in the midterm, but the final will come with a formula sheet. Make-up exams are
