Wendy Drennon HUM 3930 – 01 Prof. Susana Dias-Boria 15 April 2008 Viewer Response to The Three Burials of Melquíades Estrada I thought that this film was sad and showed an array of interesting characters. The main character is Pete, and he is just a ranch cowboy and befriends Estrada right away. Estrada had traveled from Mexico looking for work in the USA. Pete had promised to take him back to his birthplace when he dies so he can be buried on his own land. Then there was the border patrolman, who is just on the verge of crazy while stuck in a loveless marriage. It was his lack of brain that sent this movie into a whirlwind; he shot Estrada. I feel like this movie showed a different aspect of a Latino ideology. I have learned through my studies, that many immigrants who come to the USA from South of the border usually want to be buried back in their hometown. I know that there are different religious and psychological aspects of being buried where you were born. Some believe that they will not be able to find their way into the next life if they are buried
