Six Sigma at 3M provides greater returns than the $1bilion spent on research anddevelopment. In addition, it can increase the customer satisfaction, energizing the organization,improving product quality, services, and processes. Moreover, when Sigma at 3M applies for aproject, it can reduce cost, improve time cycle, and increase customer’s satisfaction. Reducingcost align with increase profits. A company implementing Six Sigma is looking for reducingcosts whenever possible without reducing quality. Furthermore, it improves supply chainmanagement leading to better cash flow. In terms of risks, the Six Sigma program can selectinappropriate projects that have a lack of analysis. The risks of the program are the costs, thecomplexity of the program, and difficulty in measuring results for service processes andtransaction-based processes. For each a single project, financial department is responsible fortracking and reporting. The tracking systems calculate savings and reduction in defects. The teamleader and manager are tracking their progress by measuring the training data, the effectivenessof the training and the number of projects in process and completed. These data are measurableand can tell them if they are on truck.
