1 Yost, Cody 9/9/14 Seamanship 2 Ro-Ro Ports President Obama proposed a $1.25 billion trust fund for multimodal transportation infrastructure in 2015. U.S. Ro-Ro ports are gaining importance quickly with the demand of automobiles and potential investments, the Panama Canal expansion, and strengthen infrastructure are all effects that the industry is going to need. He Atlantic Coast is a huge importer and exporter of automobiles. Davisville, Rhode Island is a major importer of high end cars. North Atlantic Distribution (NORAD) processed more than 70,000 imported vehicles last year. With this continued growth, the port has now finished a freight- rail improvement project. This will allow auto racks by rail to come into ports. The main corridor into Rhode Island is Amtrak. The state partnered with the federal government to build a line of third tracks so freight coming in wouldn’t get in the way with Amtrak. This move cleared up a lot of traffic from the Midwest into the Terminal.
