Instructions on what to submit for grading islocated on the last page of this assignment sheet.Wireshark is a very powerful tool. One of the things that make is so powerful is the ability to customizeyour views to help you parse through your captures for efficiently. This is extremely valuable when youare going through rather large capture files. From Wireshark, open Wireshark_walkthrough.pcap.Look at your screen. Although there is somegood basic information here, we can improve on this.We are going to add some more informational columns to our view.Go toEdit->Preferences1
Advanced Wireshark WalkthroughChooseColumnsFrom here we can see the names of the columns and how they match up to our original view of thecapture once Wireshark was opened. As you can see, we have to ability to add more columns. One thing that might be of value in our views would be the TCP/UDP port numbers that the differentsystems are communicating on. By default, identifiable protocols, such as HTTP, will be displayed. But wewant to look for some more information. We will add both the source port and the destination port toour default views.2
Advanced Wireshark WalkthroughClick on the (+) sign button. A New Column will appear.Click on “New Column” and rename it to “SRC_Port”Click on “Number” and a dropdown menu appears. Select “Src.port (unresolved)” Then hit “OK”.3
Advanced Wireshark WalkthroughGo back to the home view of Wireshark. Scroll all the over to the right to see that your new column isvisible. (We will change the location in a bit). Now repeat the steps performed to at the source port information and add the destination portinformation in your view. Now we are going to change the sequence of columns to make things easier to read.
